Hear cardio progress updates while you run or ride
Set up spoken pace and lap updates for cardio, with automatic splits and GPS Auto Pause when they fit your workout.
A spoken update can tell you how a run or ride is going without asking you to look at your phone. TandemFit's Cardio Voiceover reads the workout stats you choose at time, distance, or lap intervals. Default Auto Lap can mark regular splits for those updates, while GPS Auto Pause keeps stopped time out of outdoor workouts. These are separate controls under Profile, Settings, Workout; use the ones that fit your session.
How do I get automatic lap splits?
Turn on Default Auto Lap. When you first enable it, TandemFit starts with a time-based split. Then:
- Choose Time for splits like every five minutes, or Miles/KM for distance splits like every mile or kilometer.
- Tap the Split every field and pick the interval or distance. There is a minimum supported split so laps stay useful.
- Tap Save.
New cardio workouts use this default unless a workout has a more specific auto-lap setup of its own.
Distance splits depend on distance data. GPS workouts can split from route distance. Indoor distance splits work best when speed and time can estimate distance, while time splits work for any cardio session.
Automatic splits do not replace manual ones. During a workout, the flag, Interval, and Cool Down buttons still work for segments you want to mark yourself.
What does GPS Auto Pause do?
GPS Auto Pause pauses outdoor GPS cardio when you stop moving and resumes when movement returns. Stoplights and short breaks then stay out of your active time. Turn it on or off in Workout Settings and tap Save before you start.
It applies only to GPS cardio. Indoor cardio keeps using the manual Pause and Resume buttons, and you can still use those buttons during a GPS workout whenever you want direct control.
How do I set up cardio voiceover?
Cardio Voiceover speaks progress updates while you move. GPS and indoor workouts have separate profiles, so you can set them up differently.
- Under Cardio Voiceover, choose GPS or Indoor.
- Turn the switch on.
- Pick a trigger: Time, Distance, or Lap.
- Choose the trigger interval.
- Select up to five stats to speak, such as current pace.
- Adjust the voiceover volume and tap Save.
Distance triggers apply only to GPS-tracked cardio. Indoor workouts can use time-based or lap-based announcements. A Lap trigger speaks after manual or automatic splits, which pairs well with Default Auto Lap. Keep the stat list short; a long announcement is harder to take in mid-stride.
How do these work together on a run?
A simple setup for an outdoor run: Default Auto Lap by distance, GPS Auto Pause on, and voiceover triggered by Lap with pace and total time. Each split is announced when you cross it, and waiting at a light does not count against your moving time. Afterward, Review shows your route and laps together.
Practice first
The walkthroughs for voiceover and Auto Pause open Workout Settings with temporary practice values and restore your original settings when you finish, so trying them does not change anything. Save is disabled while practice values are active; make your real changes after the guide closes. An outdoor Auto Lap demo also lets you practice manual laps in a sandbox that does not save a workout. Find all of them in Profile, Settings, FAQ.
TandemFit runs on iPhone and Apple Watch, with Android and Wear OS in beta. For more on outdoor tracking, see the running GPS tracker overview.
