Personal trainer apps for programs and client progress
Choosing software for your coaching work? Compare TandemFit, Trainerize, and TrueCoach for sharing programs and reviewing client activity.
A coaching app should make two jobs straightforward: creating a client's workout plan and seeing which workouts they completed. TandemFit, Trainerize, and TrueCoach all support programming and reviewing client training. The differences are in the tools you and your clients use around those sessions.

Create plans and track client workouts
In TandemFit, you can create workout plans, share them with clients, and review their logged workouts. You can see the program a client is following and the training they recorded.
For example, if you planned three sessions and see two in the log, you have a specific question to ask: did the third workout get missed, or did the client forget to record it? You can discuss what happened before changing the next week's plan.
Find exercises for your client's gym
TandemFit's exercise library lets you search by muscle, equipment, and exercise type. If a client has dumbbells at home but uses machines at the gym, those filters help you find exercises for each setup. You choose which movements belong in their program.
Give clients more ways to track progress
Clients also have meal and macro logging and photo-based measurement estimates in TandemFit. They can follow their program and track more of their fitness routine in one app.
Trainerize also provides nutrition coaching tools. TrueCoach offers nutrition goals and MyFitnessPal syncing. Those features are included in the comparison because nutrition support is not unique to TandemFit; the detailed table shows how the tools differ.
Compare the client information you will use
Trainerize documents workout activity, engagement, and compliance reports. TrueCoach offers workout records and custom progress metrics. In TandemFit, the client's program and logged training give you a direct starting point for reviewing their workouts.
Give athletes useful tools between sessions
The free Athlete account includes a monthly body-scan allowance with measurement estimates, plus a daily allowance of barcode food scans. Clients can track more of their own routine without a separate paid upgrade for those features.
Strain levels give athletes a view of recent muscle and cardio training load. AI trainer chat lets them ask questions using their own supported workout and nutrition records, while Claude and ChatGPT connections offer another way to discuss shared fitness history. These are tools for the athlete's own account; they do not replace your coaching or automatically share private conversations with you. Assistant account and connection requirements apply.
Why TandemFit is our overall pick
TandemFit is our best overall pick for coaches who want programming and client workout review alongside tools their athletes can use for meals, macros, and body measurements. Trainerize's coaching reports and TrueCoach's custom metrics are useful differences, but TandemFit's combination gives clients a broader place to track their own fitness while following your program.
